All students enrolled in a second-year music class may participate
in our off-island tours. There are no pre-requisites, except
for parental approval and (if necessary) approval from other teachers,
however, if a student demonstrates the inability to follow instructions,
is insubordinate on other smaller field trips, or receives in-school
or out-of-school suspension, that student may be asked not to participate
in the tour.
Students must adhere to school and music department
policies, and must agree to participate in the tour without straying
from the itinerary.
Most tours will happen during an extended break,
and students should not be missing any classes.

PHILOSOPHY OF TOURS:
1) Students can learn a great
deal more than just in a classroom. By "extending the walls of our
classroom" students can gain a greater appreciation for all that is
taught to them, not just in music, but in all areas of education.
2)
Study tours must be educational in purpose, and not in coincidence.
3) Study
tours should incorporate other Arts or Subject Areas through
the planned activities. Other subject areas are welcome to join
the study tours.
4) All 2nd year music students shall be welcomed
to participate in the study tours. If airplane seats, hotel rooms,
or ground transportations are limited, we will accept students on
a first-come, first-served basis. Students may be asked not to participate
if they are unable to adhere to policies during other field trips,
maintain a grade D or higher in other classes, or if they have received
an in-school suspension or out-of-school suspension.
5) Students
should not be pressured to participate. Students with plans to go
on other trips (other classes, sports, family, etc.) should feel free
to go on those trips, guilt-free.
6) Study tours are optional,
but provide a great educational experience. Students who do not attend
will not be penalized.
7) Students should not have to miss school
for these study tours. Tours will be scheduled on little or NO school
days.
